Florida's Department of Transportation has marked the Atlantic Avenue reconstruction project north of West Boca complete. Its October 16-23 traffic report says the project received final acceptance on Friday, October 16, 2026. A current update on the official project page separately identifies the work as completed.
The 2.760-mile contract covers Atlantic Avenue from west of U.S. 441 to just east of Florida's Turnpike, plus U.S. 441 from just south of Rio Grande Avenue to just south of Tivoli Island Boulevard. FDOT describes the location as the Delray Beach and Boynton Beach area, not West Boca.
For West Boca residents, the useful distinction is which corridor has reached this milestone. It is the Atlantic Avenue connection between U.S. 441, Lyons Road and the Turnpike, north of the Glades and Yamato corridors. This announcement does not cover every road project along those routes.
The published project scope called for widening Atlantic Avenue from two to four lanes between U.S. 441 and the area east of Lyons Road, and from four to six lanes between Lyons Road and the area east of the Turnpike.
Intersection work included additional through and turning lanes at U.S. 441 and Atlantic Avenue, plus expanded through lanes and dual left-turn lanes at Lyons Road. The project page also describes drainage, signals, lighting, signs and pavement markings.
Pedestrian and bicycle improvements were part of the scope, too: continuous sidewalks and buffered bicycle lanes along the western section, with a wider sidewalk on the westbound side toward the Turnpike. These are descriptions of the agency's project scope, not an independent inspection of each finished feature.
FDOT lists January 20, 2025 as the construction start and $26 million as the estimated construction cost. That figure should not be read as a newly verified final expenditure.
The completion update is dated October 16, although the project page still displays its previous spring 2028 estimate alongside it. The dated update and the weekly report now point to the same completion milestone.
Final acceptance does not establish that every nearby lane, entrance or sidewalk is unrestricted when you travel. Other contracts, maintenance and incidents can still affect a trip. Check current FDOT traffic information before leaving.
